Ehlanzeni TVET College, in partnership with GFA Consulting Group and the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), is offering a 5-month accredited skills programme for 30 learners in:
Battery-Based Domestic Energy System Mounters (NQF Level 4, 60 Credits)
This programme is implemented under the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) as an accredited skills programme, meaning your qualification will be formally recognised and aligned with industry standards.
What You Will Learn
This qualification equips learners with both technical expertise and entrepreneurial business skills, ensuring you are job-ready and capable of starting your own venture.
Core Technical Skills
During the 5 months, you will learn how to:
- Mount and install domestic Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar panels
- Maintain and service battery storage systems
- Troubleshoot, remove, and replace faulty electrical components
- Test and commission battery systems for safe operation
- Brief customers on safe usage and ongoing maintenance
These are critical skills in a country facing ongoing electricity challenges, where homes and small businesses increasingly rely on solar and battery backup systems.
Business & Entrepreneurial Skills
The programme also prepares you to:
- Manage small installation projects
- Understand basic costing and quoting
- Deliver professional client service
- Build and sustain a small renewable energy business
This means you won’t just qualify for employment — you could build your own installation and maintenance company.
Career Opportunities After Completion
With an NQF Level 4 skills programme in Battery-Based Domestic Energy Systems, you can pursue roles such as:
- Solar and battery installation technician
- Battery maintenance technician

- Independent solar installer or contractor

Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Have Electrical Infrastructure Construction (EIC) Level 4 with a minimum 75% pass
OR - Have Electrical Engineering N6 with a minimum 65% pass
- Be a student of Ehlanzeni TVET College
- Be between 18–35 years old
- Be unemployed
- Not have previously benefited from a SETA-funded Learnership, Internship, or training programme
Stipend During Training
Successful applicants will receive a stipend for the duration of the training. This financial support is intended to assist learners during the programme period.
