South Africa’s renewable energy sector is growing rapidly, creating new opportunities for skilled young professionals. If you have an electrical background and want to position yourself in a future-focused industry, this accredited skills programme could be your gateway.

Ehlanzeni TVET College, in partnership with GFA Consulting Group and the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), is offering a 5-month accredited skills programme for 30 learners in:

Battery-Based Domestic Energy System Mounters (NQF Level 4, 60 Credits)

This programme is implemented under the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) as an accredited skills programme, meaning your qualification will be formally recognised and aligned with industry standards.

What You Will Learn

This qualification equips learners with both technical expertise and entrepreneurial business skills, ensuring you are job-ready and capable of starting your own venture.

Core Technical Skills

During the 5 months, you will learn how to:

  • Mount and install domestic Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar panels
  • Maintain and service battery storage systems
  • Troubleshoot, remove, and replace faulty electrical components
  • Test and commission battery systems for safe operation
  • Brief customers on safe usage and ongoing maintenance

These are critical skills in a country facing ongoing electricity challenges, where homes and small businesses increasingly rely on solar and battery backup systems.

Business & Entrepreneurial Skills

The programme also prepares you to:

  • Manage small installation projects
  • Understand basic costing and quoting
  • Deliver professional client service
  • Build and sustain a small renewable energy business

This means you won’t just qualify for employment — you could build your own installation and maintenance company.

Career Opportunities After Completion

With an NQF Level 4 skills programme in Battery-Based Domestic Energy Systems, you can pursue roles such as:

  • Solar and battery installation technician
  • Battery maintenance technician
  • Renewable energy field technician
  • Independent solar installer or contractor
  • Technical assistant in electrical and solar companies

The renewable energy sector continues to expand in Mpumalanga and across South Africa, making this a strategic qualification for long-term career growth.
